How Does Qigong Work: The Old "Way"

The Way of Longevity   The Old "Way"   The New "Way"  The "Secret" (Qigong Therapies)

An Ancient Formula for Self-Healing finds remedy by asking:
Can you master your wandering mind and embrace original unity?
Can you calm your breath, cultivate essential energy, and sustain the suppleness of a newborn with no cares?
Can you clarify and refine your inner vision until you perceive nothing but pure radiant light?
Can you love without expectation or contrivance and guide others without imposing your own desires?
This first observation is an abstract from Part One of "Uncorrected galley proof  Eight Brocades Seated Chi Kung  Translated Compilation by Stuart Alve Olsen, Jade forest Publishers, Inc 1996."  In this part of his discussion, Olsen speaks to the activities of the system and what the desired goal is for each.  In the old way, understanding is not as important as accepting "the way". Olsen (on a very complete qigong system):

"The Therapies of Eight Brocades
Within the exercises of Eight Brocades, you'll find eight very distinct types of therapeutic methods being applied. The very heart of these therapies lies in enhancing your ability to sense and feel the inner and outer workings of body and mind. Once you establish a foundation of increased sensitivity to yourself, then the subtle inner energies of ching, ch'i, and shen can not only be experienced, but consciously applied.
The therapies and exercises of Eight Brocades can lead far along the path of learning how to take care of yourself.  If you can discipline yourself and practice each day you will over time notice an incredible difference in your vitality and sense of well-being. Later on, as you continue to become ever more concentrated and adept at the exercises, the rewards will be even greater, both physically and spiritually."
